Member Highlight

The Nebraska Center for Energy Sciences Research (NCESR), a collaboration between the Nebraska Public Power District (NPPD) and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL), was established in April 2006 to conduct research on renewable energy sources, energy efficiency and energy conservation; and to expand economic opportunities and improve the quality of life for Nebraska and the nation.  The Nebraska Wind Application Center (administered within the Electrical Engineering Department) is funded by the National Renewable Energy Laboratory and operates in cooperation with the NCESR on many topics related to wind energy research and deployment in the state.  In addition to the interaction with the Wind Application Center, the NCESR has directly funded research projects on the low-cost production of hydrogen from wind sources, the viability of wind generation for farm and rural communities, online non-intrusive wind turbine fault diagnosis, wind turbine safety and reliability, and the optimum maintenance strategies for improving reliability, efficiency and safety of wind plants.
